By the time I was a few chapters in, I had a difficult time putting this book down. It reminds me of the science fiction I used to read as a teenager, such as Anne McCaffrey's series Dragonriders of Pern, stories rich in lore and inventive history. I thought this book was merely going to be about space-age intrigue - not quite my style -- but I was very pleasantly surprised by the intricate story that drew me in. The author deftly weaves different viewpoints and experiences together from several characters -- you're never sure where the story might lead you next, but you can't wait to find out. Reading began early, and went quickly to multi-book sagas in otherworldly settings. In writing, she began as a youth arts scholar and accepted poet, graduating to freelance periodical and editing work. More recently, she has had a neo-Shakespearian monologue performed on the local stage, contributes to McSweeney's Internet Tendency and other showcases. This aside from the main work of her debut science fiction fantasy series, Bones of Starlight, an excerpt from which was a Writers of the Future Contest Finalist. She has also studied and worked in the sciences, retail, and small farms. She calls the Pacific Northwest home, and there manages Primal Spiral, an entity in support of inter-arts collaborations in imaginative fiction.
