Nulle part dans son oeuvre Aristote n'avait traité de la notion de providence. C'est à Alexandre d'Aphrodise, exégète du corpus aristotélicien qui vécut au IIIe siècle que nous devons la tentative originale d'aborder la question du destin et de la providence selon les principes et les méthodes du Stagirite. La présente édition, fruit d'un inestimable travail de recherche philologique, riche d'un apparat critique complet, présente un état des lieux des connaissances sur l'auteur et commente ce texte longtemps méconnu où se mêlent les pensées grecques et arabes.
