Né en 1965 dans le Nebraska, Nicholas Sparks s'est imposé comme l'un des plus grands écrivains romantiques avec, chez Robert Laffont, Les Pages de notre amour (1997) ou Une bouteille à la mer (1999), adapté au cinéma en 1998 avec Paul Newman et Kevin Costner. Il a également publié chez le même éditeur Comme avant (2005), La Raison du coeur (2007) et Premier regard (2008). Chez Michel Lafon ont paru Un choix (2009), La Dernière Chanson (2010), Le Porte-bonheur (2011), Un havre de paix (2012), Une seconde chance (2013) et Chemins croisés (2014).
Dix de ses ouvrages ont été adaptés au cinéma, la dernière adaptation en date, Une seconde chance réalisé par Michael Hoffman, est sortie en 2014.
