L'autore
Batya Gur, geboren 1947 in Tel Aviv als Kind polnischer Einwanderer, arbeitete zunächst als Lehrerin und Journalistin, bevor sie mit ihren Kriminalromanen um Inspektor Ochajon von der Jerusalemer Polizei internationalen Ruhm erlangte. Für ihren ersten Roman "Denn am Sabbat sollst Du ruhen" (1992) erhielt sie den deutschen Krimipreis. Ihre Ochajon-Romane wurden weltweit zum berühmten Markenzeichen literarisch-intelligenter Kriminalunterhaltung, und in ihrer Heimat galt sie als Begründerin des israelischen Krimi-Genres. In allen ihren Romanen spielte aber auch die Auseinandersetzung mit der israelischen Gesellschaft und Politik eine ganz wesentliche Rolle.
Neben der schriftstellerischen Tätigkeit war Batya Gur als bedeutende Literaturkritikerin bekannt. Viele Jahre schrieb sie eine regelmäßige Literaturkolumne für die angesehene israelische Tageszeitung "Ha'aretz". Batya Gur lebte mit ihrer Familie in Jerusalem. Am 19. Mai 2005 starb sie in ihrer Heimatstadt an Krebs.
