L'autore
Stefan Heym, 1913 in Chemnitz geboren, emigrierte, als Hitler an die Macht kam. In seiner Exilheimat New York schrieb er seine ersten Romane. In den 50er Jahren, gefährdet durch die Intellektuellenhatz des Senators McCarthy, kehrte er nach Europa zurück und fand Zuflucht, aber auch neue Schwierigkeiten in der DDR. Als Romancier und streitbarer Publizist wurde er international bekannt und gilt heute als einer der erfolgreichsten Autoren der deutschen Gegenwartsliteratur. Er starb 2001.
