Sinossi
"Kommt ein Mann ins Zimmer" erzählt die Geschichte von Samson Greene, einem Englischprofessor an der Columbia University, der eines Tages orientierungs- und erinnerungslos in der Wüste Nevadas aufgefunden wird. Als seine Frau Anna ihn aus dem Krankenhaus abholen will, erfährt sie, dass Samson einen Gehirntumor hat. Eine Operation rettet Samson vor dem Tod, doch die Erinnerungen der letzten 25 Jahre - seit seinem 12. Lebensjahr - bleiben verschollen. Nach New York zurückgekehrt, gelingt es ihm nicht, sein altes Leben wieder aufzunehmen: Er ist unfähig zu unterrichten, seine Frau und Freunde sind ihm fremd geworden. Doch erinnert er sich aus seiner Kindheit an seinen Großonkel Max, der noch irgendwo leben könnte, und er macht sich auf eine abenteuerliche Suche nach ihm... Dieses Buch handelt von der Einsamkeit, die aus dem Wissen entsteht, dass unsere Vorstellung von der Welt immer nur das Ergebnis einer subjektiven, nicht mitteilbaren Wahrnehmung sein kann. Nicole Krauss schreibt darüber in jenem anrührenden, traurig-komischen und souveränen Ton, der sie mit "Die Geschichte der Liebe" weltweit bekannt machte.

L'autore
Nicole Krauss, geboren 1974 in New York, studierte Literatur in Stanford und Oxford sowie Kunstgeschichte in London. Sie begann, Gedichte zu schreiben, und debütierte 2002 mit "Kommt ein Mann ins Zimmer" als Romanautorin. Mit ihrem zweiten Roman „Die Geschichte der Liebe“ gelang ihr ein grandioser internationaler Erfolg. Er wurde in 35 Sprachen übersetzt und u.a. mit dem Prix du Meilleur Livre Étranger ausgezeichnet. Krauss ist verheiratet, hat zwei Kinder und lebt in Brooklyn

The story begins when a thirty-six year old popular Columbia University English professor is found wandering in the Nevada desert. His wife comes to bring him home they discover that he has a small brain tumor. The tumor is removed in order to save his life but the result is that he seems to remember nothing of his life beyond the age of twelve. He has permanently lost most of his life's memories. The professor, a keenly intelligent and sensitive man returns to a life in which he finds everything strange and new to him. His alienation from his own life leads him to accept the invitation of charismatic scientist to participate in a bold and sinister-sounding memory experiment in which the memories of one human are grafted into another person's brain. The former professor hopes the transplanted memories will give him something to anchor his new life to and save him from the limbo he feels he is trapped in. The experiment is partially successful with the former professor obtaining the memories of a desert eccentric's experiences as a soldier witnessing a test nuclear explosion. Unsatisfied with these results, the former professor resumes his quest for identity which leads him to seek out his own medical records and the resting place of his dead mother. In the process of achieving these quests, through the aid of an alcoholic teenager and a senile uncle, he becomes reconciled to his new condition of mind. 8.25"x5.25", 319 pages.
