Adelbert von (eig. Louis Charles Adelaide de) Chamisso wurde am 30. Januar 1781 auf Schloß Boncourt in der Champagne geboren und starb am 21. August 1838 in Berlin.
1790 Flucht mit den Eltern vor der Revolution u. a. nach Lüttich, Den Haag, schließlich 1796 nach Berlin. 1798 Fähnrich. 1801 Leutnant. 1804-06 Mitherausgeber des ›Grünen Musenalmanachs‹. 1810 Bekanntschaft mit Ludwig Uhland und durch August Wilhelm Schlegel mit Madame de Staël. 1812-15 Botanik- und Medizinstudium in Berlin. 1815-18 Weltreise mit der russischen Expedition ›Rurik‹. 1819 Adjunkt und später Kustos beim Botanischen Garten in Berlin. 1832-39 gemeinsam mit Gustav Schwab Herausgeber des ›Deutschen Musenalmanachs‹.
