L'autore
Ulrich Plenzdorf wurde am 26. Oktober 1934 in Berlin-Kreuzberg geboren. Er starb am 9. August 2007 in Berlin. Seine Eltern wurden wegen ihrer Mitgliedschaft in der KPD während der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus mehrfach inhaftiert. Von 1949 bis 1952 besuchte er die Schulfarm Scharfenberg in Himmelpfort bei Fürstenberg (Havel). 1950 zog die Familie von West- nach Ost-Berlin um, wo Plenzdorf 1954 in Lichtenberg das Abitur bestand. In Leipzig studierte Plenzdorf anschließend Marxismus-Leninismus und Philosophie am Franz-Mehring-Institut der Karl-Marx-Universität Leipzig, verließ die Hochschule aber ohne Abschluss. Ab 1959 besuchte er die Deutsche Hochschule für Filmkunst in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Ab 1963 arbeitete er als Szenarist und Dramaturg im DEFA-Studio Babelsberg. Parallel zu seinem Studium arbeitete Plenzdorf von 1955 bis 1958 als Bühnenarbeiter. 1958-1959 war er Soldat der Nationalen Volksarmee. Bekannt wurde der DDR-Autor auch in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland durch seinen gesellschaftskritischen Roman Die neuen Leiden des jungen W. Ursprünglich als Bühnenstück geschrieben und 1972 in Halle (Saale) uraufgeführt, erschien der Roman ein Jahr später und wurde seitdem in mehr als 30 Sprachen übersetzt. Plenzdorf machte sich aber vor allem auch als Drehbuchautor zahlreicher Spielfilme (Die Legende von Paul und Paula, Der Trinker, Abgehauen) und Fernsehserien (vierte Staffel von Liebling Kreuzberg) einen Namen. Von 1992 war er Mitglied der Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Im Jahr 2004 hatte er eine Gastdozentur am Deutschen Literaturinstitut der Universität Leipzig inne. Ulrich Plenzdorf war seit 1955 mit Helga Lieske verheiratet und hatte drei Kinder.
