Edith Templeton wurde 1916 in Prag geboren und verbrachte einen Großteil ihrer Kindheit in einem böhmischen Schloß. Während des Krieges arbeitete sie als Arzthelferin und Dolmetscherin für die Alliierten. Ihre Erzählungen erschienen seit den fünfziger Jahren im New Yorker, sie hat mehrere Romane und ein erfolgreiches Reisebuch veröffentlicht. 1956 zog sie mit ihrem zweiten Mann, einem renommierten Kardiologen und Leibarzt des Königs von Nepal, nach Indien. Seit einigen Jahren lebt sie in Bordighera an der italienischen Küste.
