Sinossi
An einem frostigen Januartag 2006 macht die Polizei von Hudiksvall eine grausige Entdeckung. In einem kleinen Dorf ist ein Massaker begangen worden, achtzehn Menschen wurden auf bestialische Weise getötet. Die Polizei vermutet die Tat eines Wahnsinnigen. Als Richterin Birgitta Roslin von der Tat liest, wird ihr sofort klar, dass ihre Adoptiveltern August und Britta Andrén unter den Mordopfern sind. Und mehr noch: So gut wie alle Ermordeten haben etwas mit ihr zu tun. Sie erkennt, dass die Polizei eine falsche Spur verfolgt, und beginnt zu recherchieren. Ihre Suche führt sie nach China, wo sie auf die grausamen Machenschaften der politischen Führungselite stößt. "Der Chinese" ist ein Thriller auf höchstem Niveau. Er hat nicht nur eine atemberaubende Handlung, sondern erzählt auch davon, was passiert, wenn ein Land zur wirtschaftlichen Supermacht wird, während im Inneren ein System politischer Unterdrückung herrscht.

L'autore
Henning Mankell, 1948 geboren und in Härjedalen aufgewachsen, lebt als Theaterregisseur und Autor abwechselnd in Schweden und in Maputo/Mosambik. Neben den berühmten Wallander-Krimis erschienen bei Zsolnay u.a. der Kriminalroman "Die Rückkehr des Tanzlehrers" (2002), die Afrika-Romane "Der Chronist der Winde" (2000), "Das Auge des Leoparden" (2004) und "Ich sterbe, aber die Erinnerung lebt" (2004) sowie die Romane "Tiefe" (2005), "Kennedys Hirn" (2006) und zuletzt "Die italienischen Schuhe" (2006).
