Dietrich Bonhoeffer widmete seine 1934 in London geschriebene Auslegung der Bergpredigt und alle neutestamentlichen Vorlesungen aus Finkenwalde dem Ruf in die Nachfolge Jesu Christi.
Sein Buch »Nachfolge«, 1937 erstmals veröffentlicht, wurde im Dritten Reich als authentische Bezeugung christlichen Glaubens und daher als Kampfschrift gegen die nationalsozialistische Unrechtsherrschaft verstanden. Der Kommentar erschließt dem Leser das theologische Gewicht des Buches und das zeitgeschichtliche Umfeld, in dem es entstand.

L'autore:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer wird am 4. Februar 1906 in Breslau geboren. Als er sechs Jahre alt ist, übersiedelt die Familie Bonhoeffer nach Berlin. Er studiert in Tübingen und Berlin Theologie und promoviert 1927 mit 21 Jahren. Nach einem Auslandsvikariat in der deutschen Gemeinde in Barcelona kehrt Bonhoeffer 1929 nach Berlin zurück, legt sein zweites Theologisches Examen ab und habilitiert sich im Alter von nur 24 Jahren. Nach Auslandsaufenthalten lehrt er ab 1931 an der Berliner Universität. Bald nach der "Machtergreifung" schließt sich Bonhoeffer dem kirchlichen Widerstand an. Am 5. April 1943 wird er verhaftet. Nach dem gescheiterten Attentat auf Hitler am 20. Juli 1944 spitzt sich die Lage auch für ihn dramatisch zu. Bonhoeffer kann die amerikanischen Geschütze schon hören - im KZ Flossenbürg, wohin man ihn unterdessen gebracht hat, als ihn ein Standgericht zum Tode verurteilt. Am 9. April 1945 wird er zusammen mit Oster und Canaris erhängt.
