Gabriel García Márquez, geboren 1927 in Aracataca, Kolumbien, gilt als einer der bedeutendsten und erfolgreichsten Schriftsteller der Welt. 1982 erhielt er den Nobelpreis für Literatur für seine Werke, »in denen sich das Phantastische und das Realistische [...] vereinen, die Leben und Konflikt eines Kontinents widerspiegeln«. Gabriel García Márquez hat ein umfangreiches erzählerisches und journalistisches Werk vorgelegt. Er starb am 17. April 2014 in Mexiko City.
