Das FDM wurde in den 90er-Jahren von Dr. Stephen Typaldos, einem amerikanischen Notfallarzt und Osteopathen entwickelt. Es stellt eine manuelle Behandlungsmethode zur wirksamen Therapie von Schmerzen dar. Bei der FDM-Diagnostik ist die körpersprachliche Beschreibung des Patienten das wichtigste klinische Kriterium.
