Semotan is a celebrated artist in both Europe and the United States working across a wide range of photographic styles. Besonders die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Modedesigner Helmut Lang wirkte sich prägend auf ihre Arbeiten, insbesondere auch ihre Portraitfotografie aus. Zwischen Rollenspiel und Entblößung sind Semotans 'Modelle' angesiedelt, bei denen es sich um Künstler, Freunde und Lebenspartner handelt. Manche der Persönlichkeiten, die sie vor Jahren aufgesucht hat, sind inzwischen zu internationalen Stars geworden. Bewusst vermeidet Semotan es stets, sich auf einen wieder erkennbaren Stil festzulegen.
