Durch seine Lehrtätigkeit, aber auch durch seine Entwürfe und Projekte prägte er die Architektur des 20. Jahrhunderts. Insbesondere durch das additive Fügen des Neuen zum Alten setzten Scarpas Bauten im Umgang mit einer historischen Bausubstanz neue Maßstäbe, die später auch für deutsche Architekten von Bedeutung waren.
