C'est en janvier 1886 que Karl Benz dépose les brevets de la toute première automobile digne de ce nom, un tricycle appelé simplement " Motorwagen ", dont il effectue la même année une démonstration en public. Conçue en Allemagne, l'automobile fit son apparition en France, en Grande-Bretagne, puis dans toute l'Europe et dans les années 1890 aux Etats-Unis. Née à une ère de grandes innovations technologiques, l'automobile ouvrit de nouveaux horizons qui allaient transformer le monde. Le formidable développement de l'automobile, touchant un public toujours plus nombreux, est dû en grande partie à la volonté visionnaire de l'Américain Henry Ford.
