Créateur de mode réputé, Issey Miyake a étudié le design graphique à l'Université d'Art de Tama à Tokyo, dont il a été diplômé en 1963. En 1970, il a fondé le Miyake Design Studio à Tokyo. Afin de pouvoir se consacrer pleinement à ses recherches, Miyake a donné les rênes des collections homme (en 1994) et femme (en 1999) à son associé, Naoki Takizawa.

Née à Tokyo, Midori Kitamura est présidente du Miyake Design Studio à Tokyo. Elle a commencé à travailler pour Issey Miyake en 1976 en tant qu'attachée de presse sur des collections, expositions et publications. Elle est entre autres également à la tête de la direction artistique de produits comme les parfums et les montres. Avec Kazumi Oguro et Katsuhiko Hibino, Kitamura a organisé l'exposition « Bulls Eye Special 2007 » au 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT qu'elle préside depuis 2009.

Kazuko Koike dirige le « Laboratory of Superior Items for Living » (Laboratoire d'objets de qualité supérieurs pour la vie quotidienne) depuis 2009. De 1983 à 2000, elle a créé et dirigé le lieu d'exposition Sagacho à Tokyo, premier espace alternatif d'expositions au Japon, qui a lancé la carrière internationale de nombreux artistes contemporains japonais. Née à Tokyo, la photographe Yuriko Takagi s'est installée au Portugal après des études de design graphique à l'Université d'art Musashino. Elle a étudié le stylisme de mode en Grande-Bretagne et a découvert la photographie en travaillant comme styliste free-lance en Europe.
