This collection of recent paintings, installations and works on paper by the German artist Andy Hope 1930 includes a new series he has called Medleys for the way in which he recombines images and themes from earlier works. These new pieces exhibit his characteristic themes of playful temporality and pop culture imagery. Der Katalog zeigt eine neue Bildserie der Medleys von Andy Hope 1930 in Kombination mit einer Auswahl von Arbeiten der letzten vier Jahre. "Medley" bezeichnet unter anderem ein Musikstück, das in harmonischer Abstimmung aus mehreren Liedern - häufig aus dem künstlerischen Gesamtwerk eines Musikers - zusammengesetzt wird. Ganz ähnlich hat Hope seine neuen Arbeiten gefertigt, in denen er Bilder aus Elementen komponiert und improvisiert, die er selber schon in früheren Werken (Gemälden, Zeichnungen, Collagen, Skulpturen) verwendet hat. Im Rückgriff auf sein eigenes Bildrepertoire stellt der Künstler neue Verbindungen zwischen Figuren, Texten, Ikonographien und Farben her, über die er ungezwungen eine Selbst-Revision seines Werkes vornimmt. Das Spiel mit der Zeit, das der Künstler schon seit langem betreibt, erreicht in den Medleys einen neuen Höhepunkt; es gehört zu einem verbindenden Element seiner Arbeiten. Neben Hopes Phantomen werden die Time Tubes, Objekte zwischen Bild und Skulptur, und der Espace de Voyage, eine Art faltbarer und damit mobiler Raum vorgestellt, die den Leser auf eine Reise durch den Kosmos des Künstlers und die Zeit mitnehmen. This publication shows the new series of Medleys by Andy Hope 1930 in combination with a selection of work from the past four years. A "medley", among other things, is a piece of music made up of several harmonically adjusted melodies - frequently from a musician's entire output. Hope has taken a similar approach to his new works, in which he composes and improvises images from elements used in earlier works (paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures). In drawing on his own repertoire of images Andy Hope makes new connections between figures, texts, iconographies and colors through which he undertakes a free and informal self-revision of his own work. His characteristic playing with time reaches a new high point in the Medleys, and it is a connecting element in his work. Alongside Hope's Phantoms, the Time Tubes, objects somewhere between painting and sculpture, and the Espace de Voyage, a kind of collapsible and thus mobile space, will take the reader on a journey through time and the artist's cosmos.
