As a companion piece to Jacob's exhibition at Museum Abteiberg, Moenchengladbach, this artist's book features two related projects: an exhibition of remade Rokthos from the Panza Collection--uncannily replicated and reconfigured four times--and a special re-hanging of works from the Museum's permanent collection, in the manner of works from Jacob's Album series. In seinem Künstlerbuch zeigt Luis Jacob zwei miteinander verwandte künstlerische Konzepte. Im ersten Teil präsentiert er sein neuestes "Album": Er hat 49 Werke aus der Sammlung des Museums Abteiberg ausgewählt - u.a. von Ernst Barlach, Käthe Kollwitz, Man Ray, Niki de Saint Phalle, Franz Wilhelm Seiwert, Nikolaj Michallowitsch Suetin, Günther Uecker - und gestaltet diese auf den Buchseiten in der Form eines klassischen Bestandskatalogs. Im zweiten Teil zeigt er seine neue Werkserie "7 Pictures of Nothing, In Gratitude / 7 Bilder von Nichts, in Dankbarkeit", eine Folge von sieben großformatigen Leinwänden, in denen er eine atmosphärische Nachbildung des Werks von Mark Rothko inszeniert. Die Gemälde zitieren Mark Rothkos berühmt gewordene Kapelle in Houston, gleichermaßen erinnern sie an die Funktion des Museums als einen Ort der Transzendenz. Entstanden ist eine systematische Studie zum Thema Museum und Sammlung und zugleich eine Untersuchung zur Bildwirkung im Allgemeinen. In seinem Text beschreibt Jacob die Monochromie, die er das "Malen von leeren Bildern" nennt. In seiner künstlerischen Haltung verfolgt Jacob die gesellschaftliche Bedeutung von Kultur und demonstriert mit diesem Buch einmal mehr das gesamte Spektrum seiner Arbeit als Künstler, Kurator, Lehrer und Aktivist.
