Sinossi
Am 29. Oktober 1991 versank vor der kanadischen Küste, unweit jener Stelle, die von den Fischern "Friedhof des Atlantiks" genannt wird, der Fischtrawler Andrea Gail. Das Schiff war in einen Jahrhundertsturm geraten, der das Meer mit Windgeschwindigkeiten von mehr als 160 km/h zu Wellen von über 30 Metern Höhe aufpeitschte. Der Besatzung, blieb nicht einmal Zeit, einen Notruf abzusetzen.

Sebastian Junger, 35 Jahre alt, wuchs in New England auf und studierte in Boston. Bereits für seine ersten Arbeiten als freier Journalist suchte er das Abenteuer.
Als der Jahrhundertsturm 1991 die Küste von Massachusetts verwüstete, lebte er in Gloucester. Die Nachrichten von der vergeblichen Suche nach der Andrea Gail gaben ihm die Idee für sein erstes Buch. Sebastian Junger lebt heute in New York.
