James (J.D.) Howard-Johnston (born in 1942) is Emeritus Fellow at the Corpus Christi College, Oxford and University Lecturer in Byzantine Studies. His research interests include the history of East Rome/Byzantium between 500-1100 AD, East Roman-Byzantine historiography, institutional history and the history of international relations and diplomacy in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages.
