This book presents a solution for automatic water meter reading in households. Water meters are added with smart reading devices that could read the amount of water consumption and send it to the server via radio. Smart reading devices use a limited battery power source, therefore, it is necessary to employ energy-efficient data collection routing protocols to a network of smart reading devices to increase network lifetime. CTP (Collection Tree Protocol) and RPL (IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-power and Lossy networks) are two data collection protocols, which are focused on research and evaluation in this book. The author decided to organize the book around three main parts: the book starts with one part devoted to discussing the architectural foundation of the Automatic Meter Reading system (AMR), before the second part takes a deep dive into protocols and the connectivity models of water meter reading devices network, and the third part proposes an improved energy-efficient data collection routing protocol for water meter reading devices network.
