Herman Joachim Bang (1857/1912) war ein dänischer Schriftsteller und Journalist. Bang war anfangs noch dem Naturalismus verhaftet und wurde von Émile Zola, Henrik Ibsen und Charles Darwin beeinflusst. Auch Iwan Sergejewitsch Turgenew und Jonas Lie sind als literarische Vorbilder zu nennen. In seiner weiteren künstlerischen Entwicklung wurde Bang zum Schöpfer des dänischen Impressionismus und der Repräsentant der dänischen Dekadenz. Bang schilderte meisterhaft das Leben "unbedeutender" Menschen sowie einsamer und isolierter Frauengestalten. Aus dem Buch: "Die Glocke des Regisseurs ertönte. Allmählich nahm das Publikum seine Plätze ein, wobei das Getrampel auf der Galerie, das Geplauder im Parkett, das Rufen der Apfelsinenjungen die Musik übertönte - und endlich kamen auch die blasierten Leute in den Logen zur Ruhe und warteten. Es kam die Nummer »Les quatre diables« an die Reihe. Man sah es an dem ausgespannten Netz. Fritz und Adolf liefen aus der Garderobe hinaus in das Künstlerfoyer, sie eilten den Gang entlang, wobei die grauen Mäntel um ihre Beine schlugen, riefen und klopften an die Türe Aimees und Luisens..."
