Art & Language Uncompleted offers a detailed view of one of the most complex aesthetic identities of the postwar era. A major influence on the development of Conceptualism, Art & Language was founded in the UK in 1967 but by the early 1970s had expanded into an international collaboration involving artists such as Terry Atkinson, Joseph Kosuth, Philip Pilkington, Kathryn Bigelow and Michael Corris; between 1968 and 1982, about 50 people were actively associated with the group. The literary character of the group, exemplified in its legendary publication, Art-Language, challenged the power of the institution to generate and circulate artistic research. Art & Language Uncompleted, the most comprehensive publication on the work of this crucial group, draws from the Philippe Méaille Collection of Art & Language works at MACBA in Barcelona, which includes more than 800 works.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the MACBA, Museu d'art contemporani de Barcelona, September 19, 2014 to April 12, 2015. The Philippe Méaille Collection stands out as a remarkable representation of one the most complex and belligerent practices of the second half of the twentieth century. Largely associated with Conceptual Art, Art & Language challenges the existing vocabulary of art history by refusing affiliation to any artistic identity. Since the mid sixties Art & Language's initial development was based on assimilating critical and dissenting practices that relied on a discursive, conversational and language-based perspective that continues through to the present. 257 pages : colour illustrations ; 29 cm. Slight shelf wear to edges, book band missing back flap and is now loosely inserted, no inscriptions, tight and square binding. Photographs available on request. All books dispatched same or next working day in robust packaging. Codice articolo 017140
