La Bibbia miniata manoscritta conservata dalla Comunità Ebraica di Venezia è molto più che un libro. Nelle sue pagine iniziali viene rappresentato un dibattito interpretativo fra diverse tradizioni di scrittura ebraica. Un confronto che è letterale ma anche figurativo, con l'utilizzo di colori, forme, immagini fantasiose e realistiche. Un oggetto piccolo, che si è salvato dai roghi della controriforma, dalle censure iconoclaste, dalle ruberie e dai massacri del Novecento. Un libro che è figlio di un incontro fra la civiltà ebraica, attenta alla scrittura, e la cultura italiana produttrice di meravigliose forme artistiche. Un intero universo che ci viene restituito da una misteriosa macchina del tempo. Noi oggi abbiamo il compito di valorizzarlo, per fare in modo che la catena della trasmissione non si interrompa con noi ma sia continuata dalle generazioni a venire.

Gadi Luzzatto Voghera ha diretto per molti anni la Biblioteca Archivio Renato Maestro della Comunità Ebraica di Venezia. Studioso e docente di storia dell’ebraismo, si occupa di salvaguardia dei beni culturali ebraici. E’ direttore della Fondazione Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea CDEC a Milano.Gadi Luzzatto Voghera has directed for many years the Renato Maestro Library and Archive of the Jewish Community of Venice. He is a scholar and lecturer in Jewish history, and works in the safeguarding of Jewish Heritage. He is the director of the Center of Contemporary Jewish Documentation CDEC in Milan.
