L'autore:
Renzo Mongiardino (Genoa, 1916 Milan, 1998) is universally acclaimed as one of the greatest architects of interiors of the 20th century. Formally trained in architecture at Milan's Polytechnic under Gio Ponti, he soon veered towards an illustionic style, deeply rooted in craftmanship and history, that focused especially on creating ambience. His career started in Italy to expand to the European aristocracy and then cross the Atlantic. His clientele included some many distinguished families such as the Agnellis, Rotschilds, Thyssen-Bornemiszas, Radziwills, Zanussos, and modern couteriers like Versace, Valentino, and Jil Sander. He also designed stage and film sets for Franco Zeffirelli, Giancarlo Menotti, Peter Hall, and Liliana Cavani. Legendary were the sets for Maria Callas return to the opera (1964, Covent Garden).

En outre, la nouvelle édition offre en fin d'ouvrage, sur un papier de qualité différente, une quinzaine de croquis de la main de Mongiardino.Après avoir obtenu son diplôme avec Gio Ponti, Mongiardino s'affirme au début des années 1950 comme architecte en signant quelques-unes des demeures les plus fascinantes de la seconde moitié du xxe siècle, des réalisations destinées à une clientèle internationale et prestigieuse de collectionneurs cultivés et de grands entrepreneurs, parmi lesquels on peut citer Thyssen, Onassis, Agnelli, Valentino, Versace, ou encore, en France, Rothschild et Safra. Dans le même temps, il poursuit une activité de décorateur pour le théâtre et pour le cinéma et collabore avec Franco Zeffirelli, Peter Hall, Giancarlo Menotti et Raymond Rouleau.Roomscapes se présente comme une série de leçons-récits qui expliquent la méthode et les canons de son architecture d'intérieur.
