Donated in 1922 to the Louvre by Leon Bonnat, these 23 drawings are one of the best ensembles of life studies of a model by a 15th-century Florentine artist. Despite being named after Pollaiuolo, modern critics have attributed it to Maso Finiguerra, goldsmith and niellist, but known to posterity for being credited by Vasari as the inventor of engraving. The booklet is reproduced here for the first time as a quasi-facsimile. The commentary that accompanies it presents the profile of the two artists and the relationship of the carnet to workshop practices. The analysis of each individual drawing focuses on the images, materials and techniques.

L'autore:
Laura Angelucci is a scientific documentalist of the department of Prints and Drawings at the Louvre. She has recently co-curated the exhibitions "Giulio Romano" (2012) and "Parmigianino, dessins du Louvre" (2015) and she is currently preparing the catalogue raisonné of the drawings by Antoine Jean Gros held at the Louvre. Dominique Cordellier is chief curator of the department of Prints and Drawings at the Louvre. His studies are devoted to French and Italian art of the Renaissance. He has curated or co-curated many exhibitons including "Hommage à Andrea del Sarto" (1986), "Pisanello" (1996), "Polidoro da Caravaggio" (2007), "Luca Penni, un disciple de Raphaël en France" (2012), and "Masques, mascarades, mascarons" (2014). He is is currently working on the catalogue raisonné of the drawings by the School of Fontainebleau in the Louvre's collections.

En 1922, un portraitiste de belle réputation et immense collectionneur, Léon Bonnat, légua au Louvre un recueil de vingt-trois dessins intitulé Disegni di A. Pollaivolo (?) 1429 + 1498. Cet album, qui avait antérieurement appartenu à de très bons connaisseurs de l'Italie de la Renaissance, apparaît aujourd'hui encore comme l'une des plus belles sommes d'études d'après le modèle vivant qu'un artiste orentin ait accomplies dans son atelier au e siècle. Malgré l'intitulé de l'album (manifestement moderne mais sans doute issu de quelque tradition), la critique moderne s'est interrogée sur son auteur. Elle a préféré, à celui du célèbre sculpteur orentin, le nom de son concitoyen Maso Finiguerra, qui, orfèvre et nielleur, est passé à la postérité pour avoir inventé l'art de la gravure. L'étude expose, d'une part, le pro l des deux artistes et la relation de l'ensemble des dessins aux di érentes pratiques d'atelier, et, d'autre part, une reconstruction de l'histoire du recueil qui permet d'imaginer comment il a été constitué à partir de carnets originaux démembrés.
