The 19 articles which formed the Sentinels were originally written by the late Sabyasachi Mukherjee who worked in the Detective Department of Calcutta Police before he joined the Central Detective Training School Calcutta. These articles were published in the Calcutta Municipal Gazette and P. Thankappan Nair, who wrote the Origin of the Kolkata Police has done a commendable job, not only collecting and reprinting them along with some connected articles of Mr. Mookerjee, Nair thinks that the sentinels will give a short history of the evolution of the Calcutta Police.
