L'autore: ABOUT THE AUTHOR Towards the end of senor school, without any previous ambition in aviation, George Wrigley responded to an advertisement to recruit trainee pilots into the Royal Rhodesian Air Force. Although initially struggling to adapt to what appeared as unnecessarily harsh military discipline, once he was taken for a ride on an air experience flight, he was immediately smitten with the flying bug. Once qualified as a young jet fighter pilot, he was in seventh heaven. Reluctant to miss a single chance to be part of the regular formation fly-pasts for ceremonial occasions, he was not prepared to take any vacations or time off work. Then, with the dissolution of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, thinking there would be a mass walk out by the older squadron pilots to transfer to a life of adventure in the Fleet Air Arm, he was caught up by their enthusiastic bravado and in the end he left alone and this regretted move was the beginning of a life in aviation with fascinating twists and turns. At UDI, he returned to re-join the Rhodesian Air Force where, after another stint on jet fighters, he became an instructor and ended up on the Alouette helicopter during the Rhodesian bush war. His life as a pilot to complete forty years, moved on to crop spraying in the Bell 47 and 206 helicopters, off-shore helicopter flying in Sikorsky helicopters, mercenary flying for the CIA (dropping night supplies to the Contras in Nicaragua) before becoming a corporate and airline captain in South Africa.
