Quarto, (11.5" X 9"), blue cloth covered boards with silver spine titles and map endpapers. 304 pp. plus credits. Generously illustrated throughout with full color photographs by Mike Sajna, as well as historical photographs. The authors trace this river known to pioneers as the "Gateway to the West" both historically (from prehistoric times) as well as geographically from the headwaters to the point where it joins the Monongahela to form the Ohio river. The author covers the river's critical role in pioneer movement to the West, the French and Indian Wars and in the history of the Industrial Revolution in the United States as a transportation highway for coal, oil, steel and all of the products which made Pittsburgh and the surrounding area the crucible of inidustrial production from the Revolutionary Was through World War II. This is a "Keystone Book" production of the Pennsylvania State University which indicates its importance to the publisher as a contribution to the history and understanding of the State of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region to the history of the United States, consequently they make a special effort to create a beautiful book production. Gorgeous color photography makes the book as pleasurable as a natural history of the river as the text makes it a valuable, scholarly and historical work. This copy is in beautiful collector's condition. The cloth is very fresh and clean with sparkling silver spine titles. The interior is bright, colorful, fresh and unblemished. As New in As new Dust jacket. Codice inventario libreria 10182
