An archive of special invitations, greeting cards, and newspaper clippings related to Hal Roach, best known as the great producer of comedy films teaming Laurel & Hardy and creating the Our Gang comedy series, in correspondence with Victor Scherle and William Levy, authors of ÔThe Films of Frank CapraÕ and ÔAffectionately, T. S. Eliot: The Story of a Friendship: 1947-1965.Õ Included is a thank you card from Hal Roach to Scherle and Levy dated January 28, 1982, thanking them for their participation in his 90th birthday celebration. The card reads in full: ÒDear Bill and Vic, Thank you for helping make my ninetieth birthday a most memorable one. The Capra book is fascinating and a great addition to my library. I will read it with fond thoughts of our friendship. Meanwhile, IÕm going to cut down on the booze and cigarettes - just in case my three charming daughters have something planned for 1992. Kindest regards, Hal.Ó With two invitations (one for Scherle and one for Levy) for that party held on January 14, 1982 at the Bel Air Country Club, hosted by RoachÕs daughter Maria and her husband, former astronaut Scott Carpenter. Two years later, in 1984, Hal Roach received an Oscar, an Honorary Award in recognition of his unparalleled record of distinguished contributions to the motion picture art form. With two printed invitations for an ÔEvening in Honor of Hal RoachÕ held at the Bel Air Country Club on October 26, 1988, put together to benefit the Communications Department of Loyola Marymount University. Included is a clipping from the Los Angeles Times dated October 14, 1983 in which RoachÕs son-in-law, former astronaut Scott Carpenter, is interviewed regarding his inclusion in Tom WolfeÕs book ÔThe Right StuffÕ which led to some unfavorable turns of event for Carpenter. Hal Roach and Frank Capra worked together on the films Every Man for Himself (1924), High Society (1924), and Jubilo, Jr. (1924). Codice articolo 18838E
