SOME OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE FADED OR POORLY REPRODUCED BY THE PUBLISHER. THEY ARE MOUNTED ON HEAVY PAPER INSERTS. SOME OF THE INSERTS HAVE MINOR EDGE MOISTURE STAINING NOT AFFECTING THE PHOTOGRAPHS. THE PRINTED MATERIAL IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITHOUT FOXING, MOISTURE STAINING OR OTHER DEFECTS. THE BIOGRAPHYS AND PHOTOS INCLUDE NOTABLE CHICAGO PIONEERS SUCH AS WILLIAM B. I HAVE HAD AN 1868 VERSION OF A BOOK WITH THE SAME TITLE THAT CONTAINED MORE PHOTOGRAPHS AND BIOGRAPHIES. THE PHOTOGRAPHS IN THAT BOOK WERE ATTRIBUTED TO J. CARBUTT, A NOTED CHICAGO PHOTOGRAPHER. I SUSPECT THAT THIS BOOK MAY HAVE BEEN AN LATER VERSION. THIS FORM OF BIOGRAPHICAL BOOK WAS A POPULAR PUBLISHERS VENTURE OF THE LATE 19TH CENTURY WHEREBY BIOGRAPHICAL VOLUMES WERE PRODUCED TO SOOTHE THE EGOS OF THE NOTABLES AND GENERATE INCOME FOR THE PUBLISHER.
