Riassunto: Peggy Lewis photographed Corolla, North Carolina, in the early 1970s, when this part of the Outer Banks, now a developed resort destination, was still semi-wild ... a time Before the Road. Karen Lewis has created a gorgeous volume of her mother's black-and-white photographs of Corolla, here meticulously printed in a four-color process to capture the subtle tone of the original prints. After a short introductory text, the large-format prints speak, without need of captions, of the ocean, the shore, the few dwellings, the buildings overtaken by time and weather, the people, and the history of Corolla.
L'autore: Photographer Peggy T. Lewis (1922-1998) for much of her life divided her time between her native Richmond, Virginia, and the Outer Banks, where she and potter Anna Smith in the early 1970s converted a fallen-down fishing shack into the Duck Blind Gallery. Initially an outlet for Lewis and Smith's own works, Duck Blind soon developed into a venue for nationally known artists, including many whom the partners discovered on annual scouting trips to New York.
