Riassunto: Peggy Lewis photographed Corolla, North Carolina, in the early 1970s, when this part of the Outer Banks, now a developed resort destination, was still semi-wild ... a time Before the Road. Karen Lewis has created a gorgeous volume of her mother's black-and-white photographs of Corolla, here meticulously printed in a four-color process to capture the subtle tone of the original prints. After a short introductory text, the large-format prints speak, without need of captions, of the ocean, the shore, the few dwellings, the buildings overtaken by time and weather, the people, and the history of Corolla.
About the Author: Photographer Peggy T. Lewis (1922-1998) for much of her life divided her time between her native Richmond, Virginia, and the Outer Banks, where she and potter Anna Smith in the early 1970s converted a fallen-down fishing shack into the Duck Blind Gallery. Initially an outlet for Lewis and Smith's own works, Duck Blind soon developed into a venue for nationally known artists, including many whom the partners discovered on annual scouting trips to New York.
