THE PREFACE WAS PROVIDED BY A E. E. WRENN. MARGARET KEEN EVERTS WAS A RELIGIOUS WOMAN WHO MARRIED A BAPTIST MINISTER WHOSE FIRST WIFE HAD DIED. HE SERVED AS PASTOR IN VARIOUS BABPTIST CHURCHES OVER THE YEARS IN SEVERAL CITIES. SHE SETTLED IN CHICAGO IN THE MID 1860s WITH HER HUSBAND WILLIAM WALLACE EVERT WHO HAD ASSUMED THE ROLE OF PASTOR OF THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF CHICAGO. THE BIOGRAPHY RELIES HEAVILY ON MANY LETTERS THAT WERE EXCHANGED BETWEEN HER HUBSAND AND BROTHER DURING HER LIFETIME AND DESCRIBES THE RIGORS OF PIONEER LIFE IN CITIES SUCH AS NEW YORK, CINCINNATTI, LOUISVILLE AND CHICAGO. THERE IS A GREAT EMPHASIS ON THE RELIGIOUS NATURE OF HERSELF AND HER HUSBAND. THE BIOGRAPHY WAS WRITTEN BY HER STEP DAUGHTER FOLLOWING HER DEATH. THE BOOK IS RECORDED IN THE 1938 AMERICAN IMPRINTS INVENTOR OF CHICAGO ANTE-FIRE IMPRINTS AS # 1188 THAT LISTS ONLY ONE COPY IN THE DICKE COLLECTION. THIS BOOK IS FROM THAT COLLECTION.
