Quarto (29.1 × 20 cm). Original pictorial portfolio consisting of 13, [1] pp. of text and 33 numbered lithographed plates, including one in blue and red. Portfolio with nicks to extremities and lightly dust-soiled; contents in fine condition. Portfolio of cubist-inspired decorative patterns, lettering and ornament samples, in the original paper folder, the front illustration of which is replicated on one of the plates. The preface explains the plates and lays out Wellner’s views on modern Czech design. He distinguishes his work from the Vienna Secession and other out-dated approaches, maintaining the necessity of following new, modern styles in ornamentation and hopes to implement a unified approach across all Czech art schools. “Pedagogization of modern art is a salient feature of Czech modernism. Wellner’s collection of decorative design comprises both angular and rondo-cubist patterns” (Karel Toman, Czech Cubism and the Book, 174). See Toman, Cubism and the Book, p. 174. Rare; Not in KVK, OCLC. Codice inventario libreria
