edition, very good condition, faint crease to upper coener of cover, with a very cood dust jacket, minute wear to edges of dust jacket, with a priced unclipped dust jacket flap, published by Doubleday & Company, New York, 372 pages, The incredible account of the one hundred day battle for Guadalcanal in which the Americans, United States Marines, United States Navy, Navy Aviators, Marine Corps Aviators and the United States Army, took the offensive from the Japanese and this became the beginning of the end for the Japanese Empire. On the American side we had such notables as Alexander Vandergrift, Chester Nimitz, Bull Halsey, Chesty Puller, Red Mike Edson, The Cactus Air Force, with men like Joe Foss, and other aviation Aces, the Coastwatchers, notably Martin Clemens and the invaluable Sergeant Major Vouza, and on the Japanese side their top military Naval and Army Officers headed by Isoruku Yamamoto and Haruyoshi Hyattutake. Statistically this was a terrible defeat for Japan with a loss of life in all of approximetly 50,000 men, versus American losses of the three services 1,592 dead and 4183 wounded! Illutrated with battle maps, also the front and rear endpapers have area maps, an extensive notes section, and bibliography. The author was a United States Marine during the battle for Guadalcanal and had first hand knowlege of the events, he also had official Japanese battle records. One of the best accounts of this famous battle! Gill p.53. Codice inventario libreria 008893
