Riassunto: In Changing Oil, WRI economists Duncan Austin and Amanda Sauer examine the extent to which environmental risks could affect the stock prices of leading oil and gas companies. The financial impact of two issues are analyzed in detail -- future policies to mitigate global climate change ("global warming") and restricted access to reserves in environmentally sensitive areas. The report finds that some companies could lose up to six percent of their shareholder value as a result of these two issues and that most companies fail to disclose these risks to investors in their financial reports.
L'autore: Duncan Austin is a Senior Associate for the World Resources Institute's Program in Economics and Population. His principal research areas are the integration of environmental issues into the capital markets and business decision-making, and the economic aspects of mitigating climate change. He has authored, or co-authored, seven publications at WRI on these issues, including, most recently Coming Clean: Corporate Disclosure of Financially Significant Environmental Risks.
Before joining WRI he was employed as an economist in the United Kingdom Department of Environment in the Environment Protection Economics Division.
Mr. Austin earned a MSc. Degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from University College London and a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from St. Hugh's College, Oxford University.
