Text: Italian. Unp. (28p.); ill.; 21x24 cm. The catalogue contains the Manifesto "Cracking Art" 1993. "The Cracking Art Movement began it's life on 30th May 1993 with it's first manifesto, defined as 'The End of The Millennium'. The artists involved in this movement are advocates of a new philosophy which uses materials whose most creative means of expression is through petroleum/plastics. The 'Cracking' artists aim to rediscover, in the various forms and guises of the different plastics which they use for their work, the original ancient natural essence which is concealed in the materials themselves and which, over thousands of years of sedimentation has produced oil: 'THE ORGANIC SYNTHESIS OF THE PLANET'S WHOLE EXPERIENCE'. Crude oil which gushes lukewarm from Mother Earth is the supreme example of a natural material, seeing as it is the genetic heir of all animal and vegetable life, from the birth of the universe to ourselves today and of which, when our time comes, we too are destined to become part. The use and exploitation of crude oil requires a petrochemical process known as 'CRACKING' (from which the movement takes it's name). The purpose of this process is to break up the molecular chains in order to transform the crude oil (natural matter) into a synthetic magma (artificial) that can have infinite derivatives which can be beneficial to today's society, such as: hydrocarbons, textile fibres, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, polimers and monimers which are used to make plastics, materials which take on different shapes and colours, materials which surround us and proliferate exponentially invading our lives and environment to the point where they enter into symbiosis with the human organism. The philosophy of the Cracking artists therefore, is to use plastic icons and plastic imagery of nature in order to give oil back it's ancient organic essence. A poetic reconstruction of life and of the universe, starting from matter to the research of nature, and from man back to his ancestral origin. The Cracking Art group was conceived and founded by it's originator Omar Ronda, (Biella - Italy 1947), and is further made up of seven other European artists: William Sweetlove (Ostende - Belgium 1948), Renzo Nucara (Crema - Italy 1955), Marco Veronese (Biella - Italy 1962), Alex Angi (Cannes - France 1965), Carlo Rizzetti (Brussels - Belgium 1969), Kicco (Biella - Italy 1969). The movement is now known internationally thanks to the numerous displays it has produced regarding the issue of environmental protection, with plastic models of animals in danger of extinction: dolphins, seagulls, turtles and others, which have invaded town squares, cities and open spaces."
