Clean, tight, and square first edition bound in brown cloth backstrap over brown boards, with gilt titles. Light wear at head and foot of spine, but heavy wear at forecorners, and front hinge is cracked but intact. PO's inscription on second endpaper, and pages 40 through 45 are marked by paper clip residue at upper edge. Exploration of the history and symbolism of the cross based on the life-long collection by the author of crosses from Europe, Russia, and the Middle East.
