Riassunto: Daniel Boone as the typical backwoodsman of the trans-A lleghany region. Despite popular belief, he was not really the founder of Kentucky. Other explorers and hunters had been there long before him; he himself was piloted through Cumberland Gap by John Finley; and his was not even the first permanent settlement in Kentucky, for Harrodsburg preceded it by nearly a year; his services in defense of the West, during nearly a half century of border warfare, were not comparable to those of George Rogers Clark or Benjamin Logan; as a commonwealth builder he was surpassed by several. Nevertheless, Boone spicturesque career possesses a romantic and even pathetic interest that can never fail to charm the student of history.

Descrizione libro Forgotten Books, United States, 2017. Paperback. Condizione libro: New. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Excerpt from Daniel Boone: Wilderness Scout He was one of the many great Indian fighters of his time: lived for years with his ri?e and tomahawk next his hand: lost brothers and sons under the scalp ing knife. He was a master of woodcraft, able to find his way hundreds of miles through unbroken forests, able to maintain himself alone not merely for a day or a week but for a year or more without other resources than his ri?e, his tomahawk, and his knife; and this in the face of the most wily of foes. He was muscular and strong and enduring; victor in many a hand-to hand combat, conqueror of farms cut from the forest; performer of long journeys afoot at speed that would seem incredible to a college athlete. He was a dead shot with the ri?e, an expert hunter of game. Other men, long since forgotten, were all these things.
