Descrizione libro Elkhart Carriage & Harness Mfg. Co. Elkhart, Indiana. No date. Ca. 1916., 1916. Carriage and Harness Catalog in defective condition. Covers and first six pages missing; presume pages at rear missing as well (pagination ends at p. 126). Catalog 11.5 x 8.5 inches; profusely illustrated with black and white drawings of horse-drawn vehicles and various harness varieties. An unusual feature of the catalog is the company's "Commercial Body," to be fitted to a Ford Chassis. Short tears and some dog-earing to early pages as well as to two rear pages; occasional light soiling. The bulk of what is present is in good condition. There is no listing in WorldCat for an Elkhart carriage catalog from the teens. (The vintage of the catalog is based on dated letters received from appreciative customers, published in the catalog.) The catalog begins on page 7 with "A Personal Word From Our Secretary," Geo. B. Pratt who, with his brother William B. Pratt, founded the company in 1873. Elkhart introduced a gasoline-powered automobile in 1908 without, however, abandoning manufacture of their horse-drawn buggies and carriages and line of harness. Elkhart was known through the teens and twenties for their well-built automobiles; it was sold by the founders in 1922 and went out of business in the early years of the Depression. Overall, a most interesting piece of ephemera--of relatively late vintage for horse-drawn buggies and carriages--in "as-is" condition. Codice libro della libreria 49322
