Riassunto: The book was organized in two major sections. The first section was chapter 1, dealing with the history of the gemstone as far back as the early Egyptian period, about 3,000 BC and into the twentieth century. The second major division begins with chapters 2 through 8 representing the seven major divisions of garnet species. Those chapters also included their scientific descriptions and their worldwide sources. In appendix 1, I included the results of a study of 'Pyrandine' garnets from the Malagasy Republic and Orissa, India. Another research study I did appeared in appendix 2, which was the absorption spectra of various species of garnet, and how that appeared on a spectroscope, helpful to gemologists to identify gemstones. The third appendix was a study of garnet jewelry in ancient and Medieval history with black and white photos that I took during my historical research.
Dall'autore: The Garnet book was the capstone of my professional career as an international gemological researcher, leader of two major gemological educational centers in the United States (Jewelry Tech Institute, Inc.) and Bangkok, Thailand (Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences, Inc,) and a custom gem cutter of faceted and cabochon gemstones. While I was the Managing Director of the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences in Bangkok, an agent asked me to write a book on my specialty gemstone, garnet. They were publishing a series of gemstone books, and garnet was one of their planned volumes. It was a difficult assignment for me, primarily because it was the first major book to be written on the subject. Fortunately, my employers were very helpful, and when I asked them to send me to London for two months and introduce me to the major scholars in that city, they did so. I also was able to access the British Museum and the British Museum library for research purposes. This book sold out within 2 years and is now out of print, except as used, or new condition used books. Over the years the book has had the respect of at least several major gemological researchers. Dr. John Sinkankas included it in his gemological bibliography before he passed away, and rated it as a 'good' book.
