The film was nominated for, and received many awards, including Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Russell Crowe), Best Costume Design, Best Effects, Visual Effects, and Best Sound. Oscar nominations went to Ridley Scott (Best Director), Joaquin Phoenix (Best Actor in a Supporting Role), David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson (Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen), John Mathieson (Best Cinematography), and Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Editing, and Best Music, Original Score(Hans Zimmer).
