Riassunto: What is unique about this book? It is written by students! Ten Idalia High School Writing Lab students in Idalia, Colorado, and their instructor set out on a joint venture during the 1998-1999 school year to record stories and articles of their community, located on the isolated eastern plains of Colorado, to inspire future generations, and to give the present generation a "sense of place."

Read about the five famous wolves that once roamed the Idalia area, the overnight move of old town Idalia after a confrontation over water rights, the old consolidations of one-room schools, some of the original and recent buildings erected by community members, the first sports teams of the "new Idalia High School," a historical quilt designed and hung by junior high students, the changes in fads and fashions through the past fifty years, and uses of the native yucca, tumbleweed, and prickly pear cactus. All stories are based on interviews and enhanced with many photographs.

Two reasons guided the writing of this book: to print previously unpublished oral histories of the students' neighbors (before the stories are lost) and to once again record historical information that is now out-of-print. In the process, they all achieved a new-found pride in their community. And their hope is that this book will inspire other students to record the histories of their communities.

L'autore: Not only are the writers of this book high school students, they are mostly high school sophomores and inexperienced writers; but they had the desire and determination of professional writers to produce this quality book. And they are backed by the philosophies that drive the Foxfire books written in Rabun County, Georgia.

The introduction to the book, written by their teacher Lucille Rossbach, gives an overview of the process the students used to compile information and publish the book. This is also Mrs. Rossbach's first experience with publishing.
