Descrizione libro Macmillan, London, England, 1978. Hardcover. Condizione libro: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 'First Edition Thus' copy published by MacMmillan in 1978. Condition of book is 'Fine' and that of the dust-jacket (latter carefully price-clipped) is 'Near Fine'. Book has dark brown covers and endpapers. The spine titles are in gilt. Size of book in inches is 10.0 x 7.3. This is one of those books that everyone has heard of, but no one seems to have read! So why should you read it? To start with, the authors were top-rated academics (Mary Douglas was then Professor of Anthropology at University College, London) who for this book abridged the nineteenth century 13 volume original work by Frazer. They establish The Golden Bough as a classic study of magic and the origins of religion which has undoubted importance today. The text of this book has been expertly selected from the 1.3 million words of the original huge and complex work to give the modern reader a lucid account of Frazer's main theories and the evidence he collected to support them. Frazer's contribution to any theory of religion is fundamental. For the first time ever, in this edition by Macmillan The Golden Bough has been published with illustrations. Over 160 unusual photographs complement the rich narrative, and provide a visual reflection of Frazer's comparative method. Indeed they truly give the 'picture or moving panorama of the vanished life of primitive man all over the world, from the tropics to the poles', that Frazer himself sought to recover. As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35. Codice libro della libreria 001088
