Riassunto:

Book by Bednar, Michael J.

From Library Journal:

An unprecedented interest in the development of interior pedestrian areas has occurred in the last quarter century. Written from the perspective of both designer and user, this book evaluates an international selection of retail gallerias, public atria, skywalks, concourses, and other enclosures in large cities. An analysis accompanies each example, with case studies given for Chester (England), Washington, Toronto, and Philadelphia. The work is enhanced by an historical awareness (there was a 19th-century tradition of great steel and glass exhibition halls, train stations, and winter gardens) and by a concern for the integration of the pedestrian area with other parts of the city. This updates and supplements broader treatments, such as Klaus Uhlig's Pedestrian Areas ( LJ 3/15/80) and Barry Maitland's Shopping Malls (Construction Pr., 1985). Highly recommended.
