Riassunto: Over the last few years, the architecture of the human body has occupied a central position in Karl Lagerfeld's photographic work--just recently, his series Bodyparts was staged as an exhibition. With Waterdance and Bodywave, Lagerfeld now picks out courses of motion in the elements of water and air as a skillfully-used central theme. Here the photographic eye compares the different distortions of the body that result from submersion in either element. Lagerfeld's new work is presented in two large-format albums, whose dramaturgy leads the viewer to a new way of seeing nude photography in a playful way.
L'autore: Born in Hamburg in 1938, Karl Lagerfeld is instantly recognizable with his ubiquitous silver ponytail, sunglasses, and fluttering fan. He won his first fashion competition in Paris at the age of 14, joined Balmain in 1959, spent the 60s designing for such prestigious labels as Chloé, Fendi, and Krizia, and is credited with revitalizing the House of Chanel, where he was named artistic director in 1983. Twin to his passion for fashion is his love of photography, a drive which has found its creative outlet in his previous publications Akstrakt and Escape from Circumstances. Lagerfeld also shoots all his own press photos, and has designed costumes for films including Babette's Feast and Catwalk. In 1996 he received a Culture Award from the Germanic Photographic Society.
