Contemporary ownership signature of William Roberton to front pastedown. A LETTER TO ROBERT MACQUEEN LORD BRAXFIELD, on his promotion to be one of the judges of the High Court of Justiciary. Edinburgh: in the Year, 1780. A fine copy, a few light spots. Quite scarce, and as this anonymous work was first ascribed to Boswell in print in the memoirs of Lord Cockburn published in 1853 it is of interest to note that this is bound in a contemporary binding with two other Boswell pamphlets. Pottle 53; Rothschild 453; ESTC T96373. [BOUND WITH] BOSWELL (James). A LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND, On the alarming attempt to infringe the articles of the Union , and introduce a most pernicious innovation, by diminishing the number of the Lords of Session. By James Boswell, Esq. London: Printed for Charles Dilly, in the Poultry, 1785. Half title is stained, the last page, an advertisement is dust soiled and has a light marginal tear. ESTC T248; Pottle 56; Rothschild 455; [BOUND WITH:] BOSWELL (James). A LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND, On the Present State of the Nation. Edinburgh : printed and sold by all the booksellers, M,DCC,LXXXIII. [1783]. A fine copy, a few light spots. [BOUND WITH] The Political herald, and review; or, a Survey of domestic and foreign politics; and a critical account of political and historical publications. VOLUME II. London: Printed for G.G.J. and J. Robinson, Pater-Noster Row, 1786. I do not know why this work would have been bound in with the other three pamphlets - unless it be a three page articlke signed "Lucius" on the character of Henry Dundas - by implication this might require consideration as being from the hand of Boswell. ESTC notes that there were three volumes produced and that there are only two known sets in North America. ESTC P6360 [for the 3 volumes]. Thus three quite rare pamphlets by Boswell within one cover + an extra. Codice inventario libreria 27512
