NEAR PERFECT copy of this last of Fred Bason's four diaries. This one is edited and introduced by NOEL COWARD. It is SIGNED and INSCRIBED in blue ink on the first fly leaf and dated 1963. He calls it "my 12th Book". Except for a closed 1/4" tear and one bumped corner, this is a remarkably clean and BRIGHT copy of a book which is usually found in a shabby condition. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON FFEP 'I sell you this first edition for 7/6 - that is at a Loss but if via it I can somewhere gain a new friend I shall be well rewarded. At any time anywhere I am a reliable amusing & merry speaker for all manner of Clubs. Very Cordially Fred Bason'. Fred has also annotated the front flap in the same ink and hand writing, at the bottom of the description of his landlady 'the inimitable Liz' he adds 'Alas, she is dead'. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, jacket damp cockled but still bright and fresh orange, corners very slightly rubbed, some slight foxing to page block, not price clipped (16s), no other inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 208pp. The fourth volume of his diaries by cockney book seller and friend of the stars Fred Bason. Descrizione libro Wingate, London, 1951. Hardcovers, octavo, 175 + 159 + 183 + 208pp. All four volumes ex-libris Walter Stone with bookplate on pastedown. Light foxing to endpapers and spotting to text block edges. Some light rubbing to boards and very slight rolling of binding for the first three volumes. Wrappers good to very good with some chipping to edges of first and third volumes. 2nd Diary has crease to rear panel and is mildly foxed. The Last Bassoon, minimal chipping, small tear and some very minor soiling but overall very good to near fine. The Diary is a second impression, else all first editions. The 2nd Diary is inscribed on the front endpaper by the author as being his own copy and not for sale. It notes the edition and distinguishes it from the second. Subsequently the book passed into the possession of Walter Stone and the author then inscribed on the title page: "This copy is owned by Walter Stone. No use holding on to personal items when one is entirely alone and probably going blind", dating it 1971. Codice libro della libreria 38586
