Riassunto: The story of France from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century, as Dumas vibrantly retold it in his numerous enormously popular novels, has long been absent one vital, richly historical era: the Age of Napoleon. But not any longer. Now dynamically, in a tale of family honor and undying vengeance, of high adventure and heroic derring-do, the newly discovered The Last Cavalier fills that gap. It is rousing, big spirited, its action sweeping across oceans and continents, its hero gloriously indomitable. Hector, Count de Sainte-Hermine, fought for the Royalists during the French Revolution. Freed from prison by Napoleon but forced to serve in his imperial forces, Hector, in profound despair, flings himself into a series of daring escapades as he courts death fearlessly. But his destiny lies always with his father's enemy, Napoleon.

L'autore: ALEXANDRE DUMAS (1802 1870), French novelist and playwright, was born the son of an innkeeper s daughter and one of Napoleon s generals. He moved to Paris in 1823 to make his fortune in the theater, and at twenty-eight he was one of the leading literary figures of his day. His complete works were eventually to fill over three hundred volumes. His novels remain as popular today as when he wrote them.
